A man in his 70s is being quizzed after Revenue officers with the help of detector dog Milo seized one million cigarettes in North County Dublin

The illicit cigarettes of various brands including ‘Richmond’,’ Marlboro Gold’ and ‘Mayfair’, are estimated to be worth more than €894,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €704,000.

Revenue said that yesterday, as part of an intelligence-led operation, officers searched commercial premises under warrant in North County Dublin.

“The seizure was made with the assistance of detector dog Milo and with the support of members of An Garda Síochána,” Revenue said in statement.

“A man in his 70s was questioned and investigations are ongoing.”

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the sale and supply of illegal tobacco products.
