Prominent loyalist Davy ‘Whitecap’ Miller caught on camera destroying former home
His one-man demolition derby on Wednesday lunchtime came a number of weeks after he was ordered out of the Mount Vernon estate by the UVF
Prominent loyalist Davy Miller is in trouble after being caught on camera trashing his former home.
Miller, nicknamed ‘Whitecap’, was snapped returning to Mount Vernon Park on the outskirts of north Belfast, where he launched a wrecking spree on the semi-detached house.
He can be seen pulling up outside the red-bricked house in a dark grey van with a man and a woman. He unlocks the door with his own key and goes inside.
Within seconds, the sound of breaking glass and loud hammering can be clearly heard.
His one-man demolition derby on Wednesday lunchtime came a number of weeks after he was ordered out of the Mount Vernon estate by the UVF.
Miller, who was once allegedly closely associated with the terror group according to sources, has repeatedly found himself at loggerheads with the organisation.
He was banished from his home estate and is now believed to have settled in Ballywalter on the Ards Peninsula.
Miller has previously denied all involvement with the UVF and in criminality. But he returned to his old stomping ground this week to carry out a bizarre act of revenge.
His associates remained outside, venturing inside for only a few seconds, as Miller went about smashing the place up.
At one stage in the footage, a male associate picks up a brick and, as a woman looks on, he smashes the front window of the house.
After four minutes, Whitecap emerges and takes a crowbar from his van. He sets about breaking up the steps leading to the front door of his former home.
He then takes a hammer to the garden wall as the other man throws rubbish from the back of the van into the driveway of the house.
Through all of this, Miller’s female associate was a non-participant spectator. However, at no stage did she attempt to stop the men wrecking the property.
A spokesperson for the Housing Executive said they were aware of damage inflicted on one of their properties and that the matter had been referred to the PSNI.
“We are aware of an incident at a property in Mount Vernon and this is a matter for police.”
Miller has been a notorious figure in the Mount Vernon estate for some years, sources have claimed.
At one time he was closely associated with the estate’s infamous UVF unit which, under the leadership of Special Branch agent Mark Haddock, was exposed as a sectarian killing machine.
It is known he was close to UVF thug Willie ‘Muscles’ Young who was expelled from the organisation after he was exposed as a state agent and his alleged involvement in the murder of Raymond McCord jnr in 1997, which he has denied.
Young was also linked to the East Belfast UVF organised crime gang, as was Whitecap. The leadership of the crime gang were stood down by the UVF leadership last week.
Young survived an assassination attempt a number of years ago, believed to have been carried out by former paramilitary pals. Now the terror group has turned its attention on Miller.
The UVF leadership has vowed to rid the organisation of drug dealers and chase them from loyalist areas.
Despite his expulsion from the area, sources say Miller’s return is an embarrassment.
“He made them look like idiots,” said our source.
“He was able to drive into the estate in broad daylight and wreck the house without anyone challenging him. It wasn’t as if it was in the middle of the night. He did it in broad daylight.
“The house is no good to anyone at the moment. It was as if Miller was saying ‘if I can’t live here, then nobody can’.”
It’s not the first time Miller has been targeted by the UVF. In May 2021 he was on the wrong end of a beating dished out by the terror group, according to sources.
He was ordered out of the area on that occasion but allowed to return.
Last night, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Police in north Belfast are investigating a report of criminal damage caused to a house in the Mount Vernon Park area.
“Extensive damage was reported to have been caused to the windows and doors of the property some time between 5pm on Tuesday, November 21, and around 2pm on Wednesday, November 22.
“Inquiries to establish the circumstances of this incident are underway. Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at this time, and witnessed any suspicious activity, or who may have any information which may assist, to get in touch.
